Richard Judd
Judd was last seen on July 25, 2021, on a day hike from his camp, near Lower Merced Pass Lake, to Red Peak Pass.
Paul Miller
Paul went missing in Joshua Tree National Park (California) on July 13th, 2018 day hiking the 49 Palms Oasis Trail. Since his disappearance, an extensive search of the area, including 6,000 man hours, multiple K-9 units, and advanced areal imaging systems have turned up no clues of his whereabouts.
David O’Sullivan
David was hiking NOBO from Mexico to Canada. On April 6, 2017 he sent an email to his family from an Idyllwild library. O’Sullivan, who is from Ireland, intended to hike north into the San Jacinto Mountains the next day. He has not been seen since. There are several trails he could have taken to access the PCT from Idyllwild. We do not know which trail David took.
Michael Patrick Flynn
Flynn was last seen in Llano, California at 9:00 a.m. on May 1, 2016. He told his family he was going for a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains for a few days.
Jorge Serrano Zaldivar
Zaldivar was last seen in Rialto, California on January 25, 2016. He left home early that morning without telling anyone and has never been heard from again.
Arvin Walter Nelson
Nelson was last seen in the Ventana Wilderness in thePfeiffer Big Sur State Park in California on August 6, 2014. He planned to go for a long hike in the forest and was supposed to return by August 16.
Heather Leann Cameron
On Saturday, August 18th, 2012, Heather Cameron called 911 from the area of the Keswick Dam OHV Park. A search was conducted of this remote mountain area accessible by OHV vehicles. Heather was not located.
William Michael Ewasko
William Ewasko of Marietta, Georgia was last seen on June 24, 2010 in the Joshua Tree National Park area. He planned to hike alone in the Joshua Tree National Park and was considered an experienced hiker and had hiked the area several times before.
Randall Gene Young
Young was last seen in San Luis Obispo County, California on April 28, 2010. He left for a camping trip at Plaskett Creek Campground in the Los Padres National Forest and was expected to return a few days later, but never did.
Katherine Anne Truitt
Truitt was last seen by her roommate at their residence in Alameda, California on January 6, 2010. She has never been heard from again. On January 9, her tan 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck with a bed liner and the California license plate number 7C23799 was found by federal park rangers at McClure’s Beach at Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County, California.
Maria Pomona Estrada
Maria Estrada became separated from her 64-year-old male hiking companion in a section of the Mojave National Preserve about 40 miles northwest of Needles. Estrada and her companion separated at a fork in the trail to look for their vehicle, which they both thought was located in different directions. When Estrada did not return as promised, her companion began searching on his own but waited until the following day to report her missing.
Michael Allen Ficery
Ficery was last seen on June 15, 2005, while hiking alone near the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park, California. He had gone on a trail that goes around the north end of the reservoir, then he changed his mind and headed up to the Pacific Crest Trail. Ficery has never been heard from again. His family became concerned when he did not return by June 19, when his wilderness permit expired. On June 21, they called the park service and a search was launched.
Kieran Burke
Burke was a resident of Rothfamham, Dublin, Ireland in 2000. He traveled to San Francisco, California for a two-week vacation in April 2000. Burke reserved a hotel room near Yosemite National Park from April 4 through April 6. His family said he is adventurous and an experienced hiker.
Carl Herbert Landers
A 69-year-old Orinda man on a quest to climb the highest peak in every California county has been missing on Mount Shasta since Saturday and is the subject of an intensive mountainside search.
Jonathan Aujay
Aujay went for a day hike in the Devil’s Punchbowl area of the Angeles National Forest on June 11, 1998. He never returned. The Devil’s Punchbowl is a remote park on the north slope of the San Gabriel Mountains.
Cornelia Meyer
Cornelia was vacationing with her son, Max Meyer, her boyfriend, 34-year-old Egbert Rimkus, and Rimkus’s son, Georg Weber, in July 1996. Photographs and vital statistics for Max are unavailable. A photo of Rimkus is posted below this case summary. They were all from Germany and were vacationing in California in the United States. They were last known to be at Death Valley in Inyo County, California. They bought a booklet at the Furnace Creek Visitors Center; the receipt for the transaction was dated July 22, 1996.
Timothy John Barnes
Barnes was a resident of Cucamonga, California in 1988. He left Tenaya Lakes near Highway 120 east of Tioga Road in California at approximately 9:00 a.m. on July 5, 1988. Barnes planned to hike from the Murphy Creek Trailhead to Polly Dome Lakes in Yosemite National Park, which are located approximately three miles from Tenaya Lakes.
Peter Laan
Laan was last seen on November 26, 1982. His father dropped him off at Toland Road at noon so he could go on a hiking trip in the Los Padres National Forest in California. Laan never returned from the hike. He has never been heard from again.
Stacy Ann Arras
Stacy rode into an area of Yosemite with her father and 6 others where they reached a cluster of cabins, where people could rest up overnight. The group tied the horses and some of them went into the cabins to freshen up. After getting changed into different clothes Stacy left her cabin with the intention of photographing the lake, she had her camera with her.
