July 19th, 1991, 13 year old Jared Negrete was on an overnight backpacking trip with the Boy Scouts in the San Bernardino National Forest in Southern California. On a hike to the summit of Mt. San Gorgonio, Jared fell behind the group and was asked to stay behind and wait. The group planned to get Jared on the way down but Jared was gone.

On June 14th 2020, Erika Llyod set off on a pandemic road trip to Joshua Tree National Park, where she planned to camp.
