Retired Army Special Forces Colonel Michael Hugh Camilletti was last seen at his home in Standardville, Virginia on May 22, 2014. He was reported missing by his brother on June 12. On June 27, a West Virginia State Police Trooper located his vehicle parked off of Williams River Road in West Virginia. A note written by him was located in the vehicle stating that Camilletti was starting a hike on May 23 on the North-South Trail in the Cranberry Wilderness in the Monongahela National Forest and planned to be out of the woods four days later on May 27. Despite a search of the area by search and rescue teams, he was not located.
